Prison officials yesterday (Nov 22) thwarted an attempt made by a death row prisoner to flee custody from the Colombo General Hospital.
The convict had attempted to flee custody after two individuals attacked prison officers using chillie powder when they had escorted the prisoner for a medical check-up.
Two prison officers had fallen victim to the attack while another had given chase and apprehended the prisoner.
Sources said the prisoner had been convicted of two murders and had been serving his term at the Mahara Prison.
