The Sports Ministry has appointed a committee to probe the failure of Sri Lankan cyclists to participate in an event at last year’s South Asian games.
Athletes and officials representing the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation flew to Nepal to participate in the event, but had not competed in the downhill category, the ministry said.
Accordingly, the committee comprising three members, have been tasked with probing as to whether this action had violated the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act.
Attorney-at-law Sanjeewa Edirisinghe heads the committee which comprises Major General Athula Galagamage, and Priyantha Ekanayake.
They have been instructed to report their findings to Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma on or before January 20.
Sri Lanka finished with 251 medals at the event with 48 gold, 83 silver, and 128 bronze medals to its tally.
