Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom party (SLFP) until the conclusion of the presidential election which is to be held on November 16.
This decision was made during yesterday's SLFP Executive Committee meeting convened by President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence. Further President is to adopt a neutral stance till the end of presidential elections.
Meanwhile, the SLFP will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna on their proposed alliance tomorrow (Oct 11), SLFP Spokesman Weerakumara Dissanayake said.
An agreement to sign the agreement to form the alliance had been reached during yesterday's meeting.The MoU would be signed by the secretaries of both parties.
The SLFP had also appointed a politburo comprising 15 members yesterday, Mr. Dissanayake added.
