LSSP General Secretary Prof Tissa Vitharana today said that former president Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that he would bring a constitutional amendment to the 19 amendment as well as empower 20th amendment by converting the parliament to a constitutional Assembly. He explained that the United freedom alliance(UPFA) has submitted their Manifesto and future plans to support president Maithripla Sirisena’s Yahaplanaya” during the next five years. “The UPFA future plan of action would be to secure democracy as well as pledges to protect the unitary status of the country while United National front is supporting Federalism on the request of Tamil National Alliance (TNA)” he said. He said that the TNA Leader had mentioned that India as well as the US will force the UNP leader to agree to give a federal state in the north and east as well as take army officials as well as leaders who led the war to victory, to international war tribunals. Prof Vitharana further explained that TNA also wants an international investigation to allow foreigners to intervene lead war hero’s to international courts.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
