A protest was held near the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo demanding appointments to all applicants who have passed the examination to recruit Samurdhi Development Officers.
Dammika Wijesinghe Secretary of the collective of the Samurdhi Development Officers Association expecting job appointments said “the candidates have passed the examination conducted four years back and fulfilled the equivalent qualification, to be eligible for the vacancies”.
He said “injustice was caused when they were recruited as only 1904 were given opportunities out of 6000 vacancies that needed to be filled out”. “We urge the president , the Cabinet minister and the State Minister to recall the total number of qualified applicants to be recruited in the public service.
He added that the candidates have participated twice for examinations and also faced interviews already. "However we request to take measures to solve this problem as it has been dragging for 4 years. At least they need to conduct the interviews again" he added.
