The Purawasi Handa (Voice of the Citizens) movement has called on all democratic political forces to unite to support NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
Athulasiri Samarakoon, Co-Convenor of the movement, in a statement observed that democratic forces have been attacking each other providing SLPP candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa a chance to win at the polls.
"As we believe G. Rajapaksa represents an extremist ideology of authoritarian politics and he is going to reverse the democratic process of the country if he is elected," Samarakoon was quoted as saying in a statement.
He called on all forces including the National People's Power (NPP), to support the United National Front-backed New Democratic Front candidate Sajith Premadasa, as he is "likely to defeat the SLPP".
The NPP has already nominated Anura Kumara Dissanayake as its presidential candidate.
Samarakoon observed that the NPP is a rising force along with some other parties which are likely to garner "some votes" and create an impact on the "democratic equilibrium in the system".
