Rail services along the Kelani Valley Railway line have been restricted due to re-railing work which is yet to be completed following the derailing of a train this morning.
A train which had departed from Avissawella had derailed between the Kirulapona and Narahenpita railway stations while heading towards Colombo.
Measures are being taken to expedite repairs along the rail track, the Railways Department said adding that restoration work is expected to be completed by evening.
Officials at the Department pointed out that two compartments of the derailed train had disjoined and are on the either sides of the track.
