Railway trade unions have decided to commence a 48-hour strike action from midnight after talks with the Finance Ministry on resolving their issues ended in a failure.
A meeting had taken place between trade unionists and Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera today (Jun 20).
Earlier, railway trade unions had announced that they would take part in a strike action since yesterday. However, the strike was postponed after they were given an opportunity to meet the Finance Minister today.
The strike action will be based on several wages and grading anomalies which they claim have remained unresolved for a very long time.
