Passenger Transport Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has sought a report from the Railways Department on the shortage of its staff.
This was after Railways General Manager Dilantha Fernando had complained to the minister stating his department was short of around 7000 employees.
Fernando had pointed out that the Railways Department consists of some 13,000 employees although there is requirement for atleast 21,000 workers.
Accordingly, the minister had requested a report from the Railways Department listing out the sectors facing a shortage of staff, to obtain cabinet approval for more recruitments.
