The Railways Department has received approval to procure 5000 steel rails at a cost of USD 2.3 million in the near future.
According to a cabinet proposal, the tender has been awarded to China-based Angang Group International Panzhihua Company Ltd.
The cabinet of ministers had approved this proposal submitted by Transport Minister Arjuna Ranatunga, yesterday (Aug 27).

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
