Railways strike to go ahead - Unions

There are fears that train services throughout the country will be crippled tomorrow after railway trade unions announced they would go ahead with a planned strike from midnight today (20). 

Talks between Transport Ministry officials and union representatives aimed at resolving issues raised by trade unions ended without any agreement today. Barring any last minute resolution, the strike will go ahead as planned, unions stated. 

Meanwhile, the Railways Department states that if the strike does go ahead, plans have been put in place to run as many trains as possible to ensure that commuters are not affected.
