Rajanganaya Farmers Organization President arrested over protest

President of the 'Rajanganaya Joint Farmers' Organization, W.A. Nihal Wanniarachchi has been arrested by police. 

He was arrested in connection with the protect held by farmers in Thambuttegama on Wednesday (28). 

The protest turned violent and left several policemen injured. Police arrested 59 persons in connection with the incident and 50 of them were later remanded in custody till March 5. The remaining nine were granted bail. 

Meanwhile, the Rajanganaya Drinking Water Project, which was at the centre of the protest held by farmers, has been suspended temporarily, the Anuradhapura District Secretary announced yesterday.
