Rajapaksa Govt failed to tackle global LTTE network; Mangala

News

The United States (US) State Department report in 2014 that says the a global network of Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was very active in 2014 is reflecting the previous government's failure of its strategies to combat possible reemergence of terrorism globally, a senior minister said today. Foreign Affairs minister Mangala Samaraweera said it is evident that previous government's strategies were 'utterly failure'. 'Former Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa was in charge as the Defense Secretary,he should be responsible for this. President Sirisena's government sworn in on June 8 this year only, Now he talks about the threat for the national security but he should reveal to the courts how he deposited state money in off shore accounts in British Virgin Islands that was taken through MiG deals with the Ukrainian government' he said. Minister Samaraweera said that the present government is going to conduct the scheduled 'Diaspora Festival' end of this year consisting all communities of Sri Lanka spread all over the world. ' It is not only the Tamil diaspora community we are going to invite here. All the communities would be welcomed. We are not going to invite diaspora groups that are still in the mindset of separatism, but we are willing to talk to all of them and persuade them. Recently the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) expressed some positive steps indicating to work in a undivided Sri Lanka.' he said.
