Rakna Lanka to be liquidated

The Cabinet has approved a proposal to liquidate Rakna Arakshaka Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, the Government affiliated security service company. 

The Government noted that the company was established as a Government affiliated security service to provide security to special institutions such as economic targets, public institutions, and private institutions considering the then security status in the country as army officers who provided such security had to be deployed in process of maintaining law and order in the country. 

However, with the present peaceful situation in the country it has been observed that maintaining such a firm was unnecessary.

Accordingly, the proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to assign the tasks of providing security in land to Civil Security Department and in sea to Sri Lanka Navy and to proceed with liquidation of the company according to the guidance of Attorney General, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
