Ranil is the reason for the present political uncertainty in the country - President

News

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that the reason for the present political uncertainty is Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Addressing a special SLFP conference today at the Sugathadasa stadium, President Sirisena said that there is no political crisis in the country and instead there is only a political uncertainty.

He further said that Ranil Wickremesinghe had explicitly destroyed the name of good governance.

“He not only destroyed his party but also destroyed the country and the good governance government. He destroyed me to a certain extent as well” he added.

“I waited patiently for three years. It was not an easy journey but a challenging one,” said President Sirisena.

Speaking on the political uncertainty in the country, he said that although it might be a novel thing for us it is not so for foreign nations.

President Sirisena went on to point out examples of Germany and Italy which did not have a government for six months and five weeks respectively.

“Malcom Turnbull, the Prime Minister of Australia was sacked within a night” he added.

However, the President strongly condemned the recent unruly scenes witnessed in Parliament.

Commenting on the ongoing judicial proceedings, he said that he would accept the decisions of the judiciary with utmost respect.

The President proceeded to reiterate that he would not appoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister even if he had the support of 225 MPs in Parliament.

“This is not due to a personal issue I have with him. He is an unsuitable politician for the country” he stressed.

President Sirisena signed off by promising that he would resolve the present situation within one week.
