UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe took oaths as the Prime Minister at the Presidential Secretariat a short while ago.
Mr. Wickremesinghe was sworn in before President Maithripala Sirisena following a religious ceremony.
It is reported that the media was barred from covering the swearing in ceremony while only five MPs from the UNP were able to be present at the occassion.
It is expected that the swearing in of ministers of the new cabinet will commence tomorrow and conclude on Tuesday.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
