Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake today (Sept 10) told court that he had mistakenly used the word 'judges' while making a critical remark during a press conference last year.
He had made this remark while being cross-questioned by Deputy Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, who appeared for the Attorney General, in a contempt of court case filed against him.
Mr. Ramanayake claimed that his motive was to criticise former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe while addressing the press briefing and not the judiciary.
Ven. Magalkande Sudantha Thero and a former Air Force officer have filed a case against the Deputy Minister.
Further hearing of the case has been postponed until September 16.
