Ranjan's contempt of court case to be heard on April 3
A contempt of court case filed against former deputy minister Ranjan Ramanayake in the Supreme Court has been fixed for hearing on April 3.
Ramanayake is accused of making defamatory remarks against the judiciary while referring to the petitions filed against former President Maithripala Sirisena's decision to dissolve Parliament last year.
He is alleged to have made the remarks during a television programme by claiming that three judges in the five-member bench hearing the petitions would deliver the verdict in the favour of the United National Front government.
During a previous hearing, the Attorney General had informed court that the incident was a prima facie case of defaming the judiciary.
The case is being heard before a three-judge bench headed by Justice Sisira de Aubrew.
