A rape case suspect was arrested in Monaragala for attempting to bribe a police officer with Rs 90,000 to to substitute a blood sample that was due to be sent for a DNA test.
Officials of the Bribery Commission had arrested the suspect while he had attempted to offer the bribe at the premises of the Monaragala High Court today (Mar 12).
The blood sample was expected to be sent to the Government Analaysts Department in order to identify the paternity of the child who was born as a result of the rape incident.
Accordingly, the suspect had submitted his blood sample to a judicial medical officer who had transferred it to the police in order to be sent for the identification test.
However, the suspect had attempted to bribe the police officer in order to replace the blood sample which was to be sent to the Government Analysts Department.
