A tense situation arose yesterday (Jun 12) as parliamentarian Ven Rathana Thero was denied entry to the controversial Batticaloa Campus (Pvt) Ltd which is under construction.
Security officials at the entrance of the premises had reportedly refused the Thero to enter the premises of the campus.
The assistant Superintendent of the Valaichchenai Police had said that the management of the campus had filed a police complaint, seeking that visitors must not be allowed to enter the educational facility.
However, security officials had permitted the parliamentarian to engage in an inspection tour around the university after about an hour. The media had been denied entry during this occassion.
"This is not a zone which has been declared as a no-entry zone by terrorists. We can supervise any university which is under construction," the Thero told the press after his inspection tour.
