The Disaster Management Center (DMC) said that the number affected by the floods and landslides too have increased with the figure going up to 471,542, but other sources said that the number was much higher.
Residents in several areas, mostly in the Galle and Matara districts were still cut off with the roads underwater forcing relief workers to take supplies to them by boat.
The Air Force, Navy and the Army supported by the police were helping to transport the relief items and cooked food.
Appeals made by private media organisations and the state television has drawn strong responses from the public to contribute water, food, and clothing.
Indian Navy personnel were also involved in relief operations including conducting medical camps in the affected areas.
The DMC said that some 75,000 persons were living in camps.
