The body of a young girl swept away along with her sister by floodwaters in Agarapatana has been recovered today (Jul 19).
According to the police, the victims had been swept away while they were returning home from school near a culvert in the area last afternoon. The victims have been identified as 12-year olds by the name of Madiyalagan Lakshmi and Madiyalagan Sangeetha.
The body of one victim had been recovered yesterday while the other had been recovered around 1500 metres from the location of the incident. Army officers along with the Police and area residents had recovered the body.
Currently, the bodies of the victims have been sent to the Nuwara Eliya Base hospital for a post-mortem examination.
