Rishad files writ petition at CoA seeking to prevent his arrest

News

Lawyers representing former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen today filed a writ petition at the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest after several Criminal Investigations Department (CID) teams have been directed to secure his arrest.

The Fort Magistrate yesterday imposed a travel ban on the former Minister on a request made by the CID.
A police constable assigned to the former minister arrested for aiding the MP to evade arrest. The PC was arrested from Wellawatta along with two drivers of the MP. Two vehicles – a Range Rover jeep and car used by the former MP too were seized.

The moves came as six CID police teams continued to search for the MP who is wanted in the investigations on charges of embezzling government funds and violating election laws during the 2019 presidential election. An accountant known as A. Manoranjan wanted in connection with the same case was also arrested by the CID.
