Around Rs 1.6 billion of the Aruwakkalu Sanitary Landfill’s total construction cost is to be allocated to address issues which could arise from the landfill.
Cabinet approval to this effect was granted this week upon considering a proposal of the Megapolis Ministry.
The construction of the sanitary landfill is being carried out by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd, and South West Municipal Engineering and Research Institute of China.
Recently, an explosion had occurred in a Regulation Tank at the landfill site where the leachate from garbage was being collected.
The Ministry, in a statement said that the construction companies involved in the project would repair the damages using their own expenses.
