The Disaster Management Ministry is to spend Rs. 2.8 million to remove debris of the collapsed five story building in Bhuwelikada, Kandy that killed a young family last month.
The removal of debris will commence today in the presence of officials from the Disaster Management Centre, National Building Research Organization (NBRO) and the Kandy Municipal Council, and the site will have police protection.
Meanwhile, NBRO will collect soil samples as well as samples of the material used to build the five-storied building.
The owner of the house, Anura Lewke is on remand till October 27. The Disaster Management Centre said the amount spent on debris removal will be charged from the owner of the collapsed house through legal action.
