The Disaster Management Ministry has disbursed Rs 3.8 million to address the immediate relief needs of those displaced due to the inclement weather.
“These funds would be used to provide cooked meals, dry rations, and drinking water to affected residents,” National Disaster Relief Services Centre (NDRSC) Director Chaminda Pathiraja told ToL.
He observed that the highest number of affected residents were from the Puttalam, Colombo, and Gampaha districts.
These residents are temporarily seeking shelter at 28 camps located across the three districts.
Statistics of the Disaster Management Centre show that more than 6000 people have been affected, since last week, due to the bad weather which has partially damaged around 100 houses.
“We haven’t estimated the compensation for property damages as flood levels have not receded,” the NDRSC Director noted.
