The Rs 7 billion worth ‘Metro Homes’ housing project in Slave Island funded by Tata Housing, India, was vested with the public today (Aug 1), the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said.
According to the High Commission, 626 housing blocks had been built along with “fully developed commercial slots” for 114 shops under the first phase of the Slave Island Redevelopment Project.
During the opening, Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu had stated that the massive investment towards the project had underscored the confidence of Indian firms on Sri Lanka’s economy.
He had also noted that there was a need to develop inclusive and sustainable smart cities in both India and Sri Lanka which are undergoing rapid urbanisation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had thanked the Indian government for their partnership in development project over the recent years.
