A Russian national has been remanded until January 28 over the abuse of a seven-year old school girl.
The remand order was issued by Galle Additional Magistrate P. Sanjeewani Pathirana when the case was taken up for hearing today (Jan 21).
It is reported that the incident had occured when the girl was riding her bicycle along with two of her friends opposite her house when the suspect had climbed onto the bicycle and rode away along with the girl.
The mother and the family of the girl who had conducted a search around the neighbourhood after she went missing, had found her crying on the shores of the sea.
The suspect was then located and handed over to the Police.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
