State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijeywardene has denied allegations that the government has entered into any agreement which allows the US to establish a military base in Sri Lanka.
Issuing a statement, Mr. Wijeywardena stated that "there is no intention of signing such an agreement". He added that no country will be allowed to camp in Sri Lanka.
The State Defence Minister also said that the government is not prepared to sign any agreement which would affect national security.
If such agreement is signed it would be done by the Defence Secretary on the instructions of the President in his capacity as Defence Minister, Mr. Wijeywardene noted.
