The leader of the UNP Ranil Wickremesinghe welcomed the Appeal Court interim injunction verdict delivered yesterday calling it a triumph of democratic institutions over the whims of individuals as part of the good governance agenda.
In a statement posted on his Twitter handle, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the UNP-led alliance will continue to defend the sovereignty of the citizens.
He added that the party stands ready to face elections in a legitimate manner in line with the constitution.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
