Sajith signs Youth Charter; stresses on role of the youth in developing the country

Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa today (Oct 28) stressed that the country’s future development would only be possible by uplifting the youth.

“We will strongly support the youth unlike any other previous governments,” the New Democratic Front (NDF) candidate said after signing his Youth Charter at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.

He noted that the policies outlined in the document would be implemented after being passed as laws in Parliament, within the first three months of his rule.

“This charter will vest the youth with the responsibility of developing the country by using your (youth) power as the country’s strength,” Premadasa said.

The NDF candidate pledged to uplift the youth in terms of education by setting up technology institutes in each divisional secretariat to provide the youth with free education.

These institutes would provide the youth the knowledge on subjects such as digital technology, nano technology, bio technology, IT, and English, he said.

“Through these institutes, as a country, we will gain the opportunity to enter the world market and become the best country in the technology sector,” Premadasa stressed.

He said that he aims to become a President who will provide the highest possible recognition for the skills and the hidden talents of young persons.

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate also promised that he would set a precedent by not using tax payer funds and public assets for his personal use.

He said that he would create a new culture that would see the youth being able to stand on their feet.

“This charter will allow the youth to stand on their own instead of becoming slaves to politicians and powerful individuals,” Premadasa emphasised.
