Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa signed nomination papers today in order to contest for the General Election representing the Colombo District. This came in the wake of separate nomination lists prepared by SJB and United National Party (UNP) to contest the upcoming polls due to internal disputes within UNP over the symbol.
Earlier this month UNP led alliance ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ was launched where many other minority parties signed agreements to contest under telephone symbol of SJB. However, the Working Committee of UNP opposed the move of forming SJB and insisted that the party should face the upcoming polls under its elephant symbol.
