The UNP’s Working Committee today resolved to name Sajith Premadasa as the leader of the alliance for the upcoming Parliamentary elections and to stand as the Prime Ministerial candidate, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
The decision was taken at the Working Committee meeting which was boycotted by 16 members over the failure to reappoint former Working Committee members to the new Working Committee.
Mr Kariyawasam said the members leftout were Ajith P. Perera and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.
He said UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will continue as the UNP leader.
Mr Kariyawasam said of the 59 WC members six had informed in advance that they will not be present while 16 others did not attend the meeting. (PCK)
