The Constitutional Council (CC) has recommended Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R Sampanthan to fill the vacancy created following the resignation of Parliamentarian Chamal Rajapaksa as a member of the CC.
The recommendation was made when the CC had convened under the chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today (Apr 05), the Speaker's Office said.
During today's meeting, Speaker Jayasuriya had informed the Council on yesterday's discussion with the Commissioner's of the Office for Reparations and its Chairman Dhara Wijethilake, a statement from the Speaker's Office said.
He had also briefed the CC on the discussion he had engaged in with the members of the National Police Commission (NPC) including its Chairman K.W. Ekanayake on April 03.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jayasuriya had pointed out that the CC must turns its attention towards recommendations to the post of Chief Justice and Auditor General before the end of this month.
