The Supreme Court has determined that the Nation Building Tax (Amendment) Bill is consistent with the Constitution, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya announced yesterday.
The Court held that none of the provisions in the Bill contravene the Constitution.
The Constitutionality of the Bill was challenged in the Supreme Court by a public interest activist on the grounds it seeks to impose retrospective tax liability on the registered taxpayers.
