The Supreme Court today ordered to postpone the hearing of the FR petitions - demanding legal action against the former Defence Secretary and the IGP for failing to take necessary action to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks.
Attorney-at-Law President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardana appearing on behalf of the Sri Lanka Bar Association stated that during the last three years DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, who had been the chief of the State Intelligence Service, had forwarded 97 warning notices to the former Defence Secretary and the IGP regarding Zaharan Hashim’s terrorist group.
The President’s Counsel told the court that however, despite specific details based on intelligence information being provided on the names and locations of the terrorists, the mode and places of attacks, the authorities responsible had failed to take any action to prevent these bomb attacks.
This case was taken up before a full panel of a seven-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice.
Attorney General Dappula de Livera appeared before the Supreme Court to explain details over these petitions.
