Schoolboy killed while attempting to catch pigeons

A 13-year-old student was killed when he fell through the ceiling of a building at his school while attempting capture pigeons. The incident had occurred at a school in Udappuwa.  

The victim, identified as Kalidasan Sivakaran, was a Grade 7 student of Udappuwa Tamil Maha Vidyalaya. Police said he and two friends had snuck into the school on Saturday (22) evening in order to catch pigeons who were nesting in the roof of the school building.

The teenager had climbed onto the roof of the building and had crawled into the ceiling to catch the pigeons, whereupon the ceiling suddenly collapsed, sending him plummeting about 10 feet to the ground. 

He suffered extensive head injuries and was rushed to the Chilaw Base Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries on Sunday (23) morning while undergoing treatment. Udappuwa Police are investigating.
