The National Police Commission has taken a decision to bring the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) under the purview of DIG Ravi Seneviratne who currently heads the Criminal Investigations Department .
Previous FCID head, Senior DIG Ravi Waidyalankara reached retirement on May 14, 2018, but was given a service extension through a Cabinet decision from June 19, 2018 to March 30, 2019 as there was no suitable contender to serve in his capacity at the time.
Subsequently, a Cabinet decision was taken to terminate Waidyalankara’s contract from February 22, despite media reports that he would receive another service extension.
The National Police Commission has now decided to appoint senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne as the new head of the FCID.
