A police sergeant attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who was arrested for soliciting a bribe was released on bail yesterday.
The suspect was ordered to be released on a cash bail of Rs 25,000 and two sureties of Rs 200,000 each.
During yesterday's hearing, Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne ordered the accused to handover his passport to court while imposing a travel ban.
The CID Police Sergeant has been identified as S. Sobitha Silva, a resident of Gampaha.
He was accused of soliciting Rs 80,000 as a bribe from a businessman who was involved in a cheque fraud, in order to prevent legal action being filed against him.
