Seven trains would be operating today (Jun 28) in the backdrop of the 24-hour token strike by railway unions which is currently underway, a Railways Department official said.
The official noted that two trains were operating along the coastal line towards Colombo Fort today.
Railway unions had persued with the strike action although a gazette notification had been issued yesterday declaring Railways as an essential service. Accordingly, any action to disrupt such services would be considered to be an offence.
The strike is being centred around certain unresolved issues in the Railways sector including anomalies in the salaries of employees.
