Seventeen suspects accused of vandalising Buddhist statues in Mawanella have been remanded until February 27 by the Mawanella District Magistrates Court.
Meanwhile, a woman and a man who had harboured two suspects involved in the incident, were also remanded after being produced before courts today (Feb 13).
Four suspects who were arrested in Wanathawilluwa in connection with the incident were also produced by the CID before courts today.
The Mawanella District Magistrate also issued a detention order on 15 suspects who were produced before courts by the CID along with a stock of ammunition that was seized during the arrest. The order was issued when CID officials had requested court to grant time for further questioning.
CID officials also received approval from the Magistrate to question another set of suspects who have been imprisoned in the Kegalle Prison over similar charges, after February 15.
