A huge congestion was reported at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) as passengers attempted to board their flights to Lahore, Pakistan after a lapse of several days.
The Pakistani government had decided to close its airspace in Lahore following the tensions that erupted between India. Accordingly, SriLankan airlines had taken measures to temporarily halt all flights to Karachi and Lahore.
However, with the re-opening of Pakistan's airspace, flights resumed as usual today (Mar 04) and subsequentally casued severe inconveniences to passengers who had booked their air tickets during the interim period.
The Pakistani Blind Cricketers team which were on a tour to Sri Lanka were also subjected to inconvenience as they were unable to return to their native country.
Only two cricketers of the 24-member squad have been able to return to their homeland, Manager of the Sri Lanka Blind Cricketers Team Chaminda Pushpakumara said.
