Severe drinking water shortage in Kilinochchi

The prevailing dry weather conditions in the north of the country has created a severe drinking water shortage in the Kilinochchi district. Drinking well in some areas have completely run dry, depriving thousands of local residents access to drinking water.

In the Konavil area in Kilinochchi for example, water remains in only one well and that one too is in danger of running dry. About 350 families in the area are facing severe difficulties as a result. 

Residents fear that if rains are further delayed, the situation would become far worse, leaving people struggling to survive.
