A request made by Shanil Neththikumara who is accused of threatening the sibling of a Bond scam witness, to travel overseas, will be considered on September 2, the Colombo High Court announced today (Aug 29).
The accused had sought permission to travel to Dubai in order to take part in this year's Power - Energy Summit, in his capacity as a public relations officer at the Ministry of Power and Energy.
Neththikumara has been accused of threatening the sibling of a witness who gave evidence against Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake over the bond scam.
Accordingly, the Attorney General had raised objections against the request, questioning the grounds on which an individual who has been accused of a serious offence, being allowed to hold office in a state body.
Neththikumara had been released on a cash bail of Rs 50,000 and two surety bails of Rs 500,000 each when the Attorney General had filed charges against the accused last month.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
