Showers and thunders showers to persist as Ockhi's effect gradually lessens

The cyclone ‘OCKHI’ located at about 600km to the west of Colombo, which is moving further away will have its effects felt while it gradually lessens, the Met Department said.

However, showers or thundershowers are to occur over most parts of the island.

Heavy falls above 100mm can be expected at some places in the Northern, North-central, Uva, Southern, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50kmph can be expected in the Western, Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces, the Met Department said.

The following images were taken in Aluthgama where severe winds brought down trees causing inconvenience to residents.
