A proposed sick-leave campaign aimed at crippling rail services for 24 hours from midnight today (5th) in protest against a comment by Minister Wimal Weerawansa has been called off.
Locomotive Operative Engineers Indika Dodamgoda said that the proposed campaign was called off following meeting between trade union represetnatives and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister had promised to make a statement about the comments made by the Minister, he said.
He said that they accepted the pledge by the Prime Minister and decided to call off the trade union action.
Minister Weerawansa had claimed that railway employees were involved in drug trafficking. (By Mahinda Nissanka)
