Six Indian nationals were arrested while attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 5.9 million yesterday (Jul 30), customs spokesman Sunil Jayaratne said.
He noted that the group had arrived as tourists and had been apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport with 737 grams of gold when they had attempted to leave the country.
Investigations have shown that the suspects aged between 35 and 42 were expected to travel to Chennai on flight UL 274. Further investigations are currently underway.
