Six Indian nationals have been arrested with 2379 kilos of beedi leaves in the seas off Kalpitiya yesterday (Jul 29), Navy said.
According to the Navy, the suspects had been apprehended with a dhow, 22 nautical miles of Thalavila.
During a search operation, 74 packs of beedi leaves had been recovered from the fishing vessel, following which the suspects had been taken into custody.
The contraband had then been handed over to the Customs Department in Colombo while the suspects were handed over to the Police for further legal action.
