Six policemen sentenced to 10 years RI over killing of civilian
Jaffna High Court Judge M. Illancheliyan yesterday sentenced six police officers of the Chunnakam Police Station to 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) after finding them guilty of being involved in the torture and subsequent killing of a civilian in 2011.
The victim was a resident of Chunnakam identified as Sriskandaraja Sumanan. In addition to the sentence, each police officer was fined Rs.25,000 and ordered to pay Rs.200,000 to the family members of the deceased.
