Port workers are readying to carry out a demonstration and protest at the Colombo port tomorrow (Tuesday) since they are yet to receive a response from the government to their letter of request against privatizing the East Container Terminal (ECT).
‘Port Workers against privatizing ECT’ Union General Secretary and Pohottuwa Union Chairman Sanjaya Kumara Weligama speaking with Times Online said that they will be launching a non-stop protest tomorrow with the blessings of Ven. Gnanasara Thera and about 200 other members of the Buddhist clergy at the Colombo port until the authorities come up with a solution to this issue.
He noted that they had not yet received a response from the government for the letter submitted last week to the President’s Office against privatizing the ECT.
In this respect they have today carried out a poster campaign around Colombo and this will be done islandwide tomorrow, he said. (SD)
